Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Neighborhood Association! We are grateful for the warmth, generosity, and community spirit that make our neighborhood such a special place to live. Thank you for your continued support, involvement, and dedication throughout the year; it truly strengthens everything we do. As we look ahead, we ask current members to spread the word and encourage your neighbors to join AMNA. We encourage you to join our team of community volunteers and serve as a board or committee member so we may continue the important work that keeps our community thriving. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday filled with good food, good company, and plenty of gratitude.

Warm regards from your AMNA team,

Tool Care and Sharpening Workshop a Big Success!

On Sunday, Nov. 16, Anderson Mill residents enjoyed a hands-on workshop on caring for and sharpening garden tools. Six Master Gardeners from Travis County spent two hours guiding participants through cleaning, maintenance, and sharpening techniques. An information table offered gardening advice, free seed packets, gardening handouts, and helpful literature on plants and vegetables. Four lucky attendees  won some great door prizes, and everyone went home with tools ready for the spring gardening season.

Mark your calendars—our next garden workshop will be in late January or early February and will focus on How to Prune Your Shrubs and Trees. More details will be shared soon.

What's New in the Neighborhood?

New Business Spotlight - Gelatoro brings authentic Italian-style gelato to Anderson Mill

For three years, Gelatoro has been bringing authentic Italian-style gelato to the heart of Austin. What started as a cozy neighborhood gem in Hyde Park has grown into a local favorite, now proudly serving at its second location on 10300 Anderson Mill Road Unit B 78750 (Next to Speedy Mart).

A family-owned small business, Gelatoro takes pride in doing everything from scratch in-house, from creamy gelato bases to homemade sauces and toppings. Each batch is made fresh daily using real milk, fresh fruits and high-quality ingredients for a smooth, rich, and flavorful experience.

With over 20 rotating flavors, Gelatoro offers both classic and creative options like Blackberry Chip, Belgian Chocolate, and Banana Pudding, along with refreshing dairy-free favorites such as Strawberry, Mango, and Lemon.

Beyond gelato, Gelatoro serves its signature house-made tiramisu and authentic Turkish baklava imported directly from Turkey — blending Mediterranean and Italian dessert traditions beautifully.

Whether you’re stopping by for an afternoon pick-me-up or a sweet ending to dinner, Gelatoro promises one thing: Made fresh daily, served with love.

Opening in late November in the old Bed, Bath and Beyond space, is Boot Barn.

A western wear retailer that sells mens, womens and childrens cowboy boots, work boots and hiking boots as well as western clothing.

Wildflower Patches Update

The AMLD Parks and Landscaping Committee, led by Mike Chaney and Nikki Hinkle, along with committee members (and AMNA members) Jon Wagner, Heather Podlipny, and Mandy Henke, have helped establish 6 wildflower patches in our neighborhood! The locations are:

  1. Powder Mill at Lake Creek
  2. Harper Park near the playground
  3. Harper Park near the soccer field
  4. Pecan Creek Pkwy at Tall Oak Drive
  5. El Salido Walking Trail near the tennis courts
  6. North Park

The posts and rope are not permanent, they are meant to cordon off the land to protect it from being mowed while the patches get established. Be patient! It takes several seasons to grow a self-sustaining wildflower patch. Our patience over time will be rewarded with native beauty, birds, butterflies, and bees.

Volunteers Needed to Help Mulch our Young Trees!

Do you like the new trees in our neighborhood? They were funded through a grant written by AMNA. AMLD graciously agreed to help with digging holes and watering the trees to help them get established. It has been a very successful partnership! The grant requires us to mulch the trees 2 times/year. We are looking for 10 volunteers to help mulch the trees to protect them from winter freezes. If interested, email greenspaces@andersonmillna.org.

Lower Your Water Bill With Wastewater Averaging

Wastewater averaging is another way Austin Water helps customers save money. Wastewater averaging takes place during the late fall to winter months and determines a cap on the volume of wastewater you will be billed for each month for the next year.

Austin Water calculates your wastewater average based on meter readings during three consecutive months in the fall and winter, known as the wastewater averaging. This coincides with a seasonal low water use, when many households naturally cut back on irrigation, filling pools, washing cars, and other outside water uses. Visit austinwater.org for more information about how Austin water is saving you money through wastewater averaging, a list of conservation tips, and to find out when your wastewater averaging period begins.
