Hello Anderson Mill Neighbors!

The past couple of days have reminded us that winter can still pack a punch. With below-freezing temperatures bringing sleet and slick, dangerous streets, many of us chose to stay home and hunker down over the weekend, and we are so grateful for the first responders and others who risked their safety to ensure ours! Schools were canceled on Monday, January 26, but it looks like it will be business-as-usual tomorrow.

As we turn the page on this cold snap, there’s good news ahead: warmer temperatures and spring are just around the corner! Longer days, greener yards, and outdoor activities are coming back soon, but we still have a lot to look forward to as a community in the coming weeks:

✂️Tree and Shrub Pruning Workshop

📅When: Sunday, February 22, from 2–4 p.m.

🔦Neighborhood Safety - Be Safe in the Dark!

Since our neighborhood has limited street lighting, it’s especially important for pedestrians and cyclists to make themselves visible after dark. In fact, for cyclists it's the law. Wearing light-colored or reflective clothing, using lights or reflectors, and sticking to the sidewalk can make a big difference in helping drivers see you sooner and avoid accidents! A small step like adding reflective gear can greatly improve safety for everyone sharing the road and help ensure that evening walks and bike rides stay safe and enjoyable.

City of Austin Solid Waste Charge

Over the past several months, an Anderson Mill resident has noticed unexpected “Solid Waste” charges appearing on her City of Austin (COA) water bills—even though our community does not receive solid waste services from the City of Austin. When one longtime resident took a closer look at her own bill, what she uncovered raised questions about how these charges were applied, why amounts vary widely between neighbors, and what residents should do if they see similar fees. Jennifer Govea shared her experience and practical steps you can take to protect yourself while the issue continues to be addressed in this editorial.

🎨You're Invited: Mosaic Magic Opening Reception

We’re excited to shine a spotlight on one of our own! Neighborhood resident Dianne Sonnenberg is participating in the Mosaic Magic Exhibit by the Austin Mosaic Guild, and you’re invited to celebrate with her at the opening reception!

Come enjoy an afternoon surrounded by color, texture, and creativity as more than 30 talented mosaic artists showcase some of the best mosaic work in Central Texas. Many of the artists, including Dianne, will be on hand to greet guests, talk about their work, and share what inspires them.

📅When: Saturday, January 31, from 2–4 p.m.

📍Where: The Hive Gallery, 12912 Hill Country Blvd, Suite F160 (across from Dillard's and H&M)

This is a wonderful chance to support a local artist, meet fellow neighbors, and enjoy a beautiful, free community event. Mark your calendar and stop by—you might leave inspired!
