Signs of spring are here, along with plenty of positive momentum in our neighborhood! From new safety improvements to fresh trees taking root, there’s a lot happening around Anderson Mill. You’ll notice a newly installed neighborhood crosswalk designed to make our streets safer for pedestrians of all ages, and we’re celebrating the completion of the 2025 Urban Forest Grant project with seven additional trees planted in North Park thanks to remaining grant funds.

If you’ve been meaning to start a home project but don’t know where to begin, the West Austin Chamber of Commerce has the answer! The West Austin Home Show offers a chance to speak with service providers ranging from remodeling and roofing to organization, financing, energy savings, and real estate.

It’s also time to cast your ballot in the Texas Primary Election and make your voice heard! And as you prepare your garden beds for warmer days ahead, consider supporting the Westwood High School Band by purchasing your mulch through their annual fundraiser; it’s an easy way to spruce up your yard while supporting local students. Here’s what you need to know about all of these exciting updates and opportunities inside this issue!

New Crosswalks Installed at Woodland Village & Millwright

Thanks to the initiative of Anderson Mill resident Kevin Lubin, a safer crossing is now in place at the intersection of Woodland Village and Millwright Parkway. Neighbors had grown concerned about drivers running the stop signs and putting pedestrians at risk, especially residents walking to Millrun Park.

Kevin decided to try the Austin 3-1-1 Mobile App. Using the app, he submitted photos and a detailed description of the safety concerns. Within two months, the City of Austin installed new crosswalk markings and signage at the intersection, an excellent example of how one resident can make a difference!

Trees Planted in North Park

The final seven trees from the 2025 Urban Forest Grant were planted in February at Anderson Mill’s North Park, officially completing the 2025 project. Thanks to careful budgeting, leftover grant funds made it possible to purchase and plant these additional trees—adding even more beauty, shade, and environmental benefits to our neighborhood.

If you’ve been meaning to start a home project but don’t know where to begin, the West Austin Chamber of Commerce has the answer. The West Austin Home Show on March 7 (10 a.m.–4 p.m.) offers a more relaxed, curated alternative to large expos, with just two vendors per category so attendees can have meaningful conversations with trusted local professionals. New this year is an educational stage with 20-minute talks from industry experts, plus a Kids Zone with crafts and activities for children 10 and under, hosted and sponsored by The Learning Experience Anderson Mill.

Now in its third year, the sold-out show has grown from 26 to 39 vendors, with a 70% return rate. It has even helped launch local success stories like Thermal Vision, known for inspections that detect air loss and water damage.
